  • Art Classes with Caroline Porter- Holiday Greeting Cards Watercolor Class

    Show your loved ones how much they mean to you by sending handmade holiday greeting cards. Or treat yourself to unique and handmade holiday decor for years to come. In this watercolor class, you’ll learn a variety of beginner friendly skills including layering, inkwork, using salt with watercolors, and more. Each student will paint four of the five Holiday Greeting Cards (due to time) listed below: 1. String of Lights 2. Salty Tree 3. Happy Holly-days 4. Wreath OR Ornament. Each card measures roughly 5x7 inches and is hand folded by the instructor prior to class. Brown paper envelopes will be included for each card.Materials: Paper: Strathmore 300 Series Cold Press 140 lb. Brushes: Round size 4, 6, 8 and/or 10 and/or Fine Liner Brush Size 0-1 Watercolor Paints: Winsor & Newton Cotman Series and/or Enlightened Watercolors Iridescent Watercolors Misc.: salt, pen ink, paper towels, etc.Instructor will provide all necessary materials for this class, however, if you would like to use your own materials (i.e. paints or brushes), students are more than welcome to bring their own.

    Twenty years ago, my husband and I celebrated the most wonderous Christmas of our lives in Krakow, Poland as we joined our son and his family for the holiday. We visited the medieval Market Square, alive with Christmas, Santa Claus, and Ronald McDonald; rode in a carriage to Wawal castle and met its fire-breathing dragon, Smok; and took a one-horse open sleigh ride over the river and thru the forested hills of the Carpathian Mountains. A variety of hat colors will be available, and all necessary tools and materials are provided. Please note that end times may vary based on the complexity of your project. {Hat burning is a creative and engaging technique where participants use specialized burning tools to etch custom designs onto fedora or baseball style hats. For those choosing fedoras, I also include decorative hat bands to complete their unique creations} **Due to the use of a heated burning tool during this class, participants must be at least 16 years old. While the tool is safe when handled correctly and with care, there is a risk of injury if misused or if attention lapses. For the safety of all participants, we are not able to accommodate anyone under the age of 16**
