    Babysitting, often the first job for a young person, is a chance to earn money and develop a sense of responsibility.   • Canvas Creations! (Entering grades 2-8)

    Canvas Creations! Entering grades 2-8 You will have fun painting with your friends. Start with a blank canvas and acrylic paints and learn the basics about brush strokes, mixing paint, and basic painting techniques. This will be an enjoyable time to paint with friends! You will bring home three creations at the end of class. Display them as stand-alone or as companion pieces. All materials are supplied. Aprons are available, but we suggest that you dress accordingly as acrylic paints do not wash out of clothes.     Home Alone - Level 1 Instructor: Tammy Lorch Date/time: Wednesday, May 22; 6:00-7:30 PM Fee: $25 For parents and students in grades 2-4 Jefferson Elementary School (door #1) room 107 Minimum: 5 parent/child pairs Maximum: 15 parent/child pairs Brown County Human Services guidelines suggest that children ages 8-10 can stay home alone for up to three hours at a time. This class for parents and their children in grades 2-4 is an introduction to staying home alone. Staying home alone for the first time is an opportunity eagerly anticipated by most kids; yet with opportunity comes responsibility. Parents and children will have the opportunity to talk with each other about questions and expectations around staying home alone. Topics include but are not limited to: developing expectations, sibling conflict, healthy choices, problem-solving, and identifying emergencies. **If this class fills, the class will be repeated on Wed, May 22 (6:00-7:30 PM)**

  • Home Alone- Level 2

    Brown County Human Services guidelines suggest that children ages 8-10 can stay home alone for up to three hours at a time and that children ages 11-13 can stay home alone up to twelve hours. This class is for students in grades 4-6 and builds upon the parent/child level 1 class. Staying home alone for the first time is an opportunity eagerly anticipated by most kids; yet with opportunity comes responsibility. The class will cover the basics of staying home alone including but not limited to: appliance safety, responsibility, house rules, first aid, storm warnings, fire escape plans, and more. This is an interactive class where students have the opportunity to ask questions as they arise. Parents will be able to have follow-up conversations with their students by reviewing take-home materials together after class.
  • Lego Design 1 (Entering grades 1-3)

    Lego Design 1Entering grades 1-3 Your child will learn science and math concepts while working with materials from the Lego Educational Division. Children will learn how to use levers, pulleys, and gears in order to build projects such as carousels, drawbridge, and conveyor belts. This class offers great hands-on learning opportunities for the beginner. This course will expand your child’s knowledge of science and math concepts such as levers, pulleys, and gears. Your child will gain confidence in his/her ability to understand how simple machines work. (S)he will build projects including a crane, catapult, and race car.   • Lego Design 2 (Entering grades 4-8)

    Lego Design 2 Entering grades 4-8 This class will focus on building Lego Vehicles with Lego Technic elements from the Lego Educational Division. Your child will gain an understanding of how wheels, axles, levers, and gears work together to make vehicles move. The children will have the opportunity to hook up a motor and a battery to their vehicles and race! Using some of the math and science concepts learned in school and in this class, your child will build Battlebots out of Lego materials from the Lego Educational Division. (S)he will be working with a team to create vehicles that will compete in the battle ring! Your child will learn about torque, tension, force, friction, and compound gearing. Bring your imagination and your competitive spirit, this class is high-speed fun!
